The Palma farm is located in the town of Opatla in the municipality of Ixhuatlán del Café, in the region of the High Mountains, within the state of Veracruz. It covers an area of a little over three hectares, at an approximate altitude of 1100 meters above sea level, all of them cultivated with the Geisha variety. Félix Morales Ixtla is the heir to a tradition of coffee producers that goes back three generations. For him, the most important legacy received from his parents and grandparents is the love for this crop. He acquired the Palma Farm in the year 2000, planted with Typica and Bourbon varieties, which were affected by the rust plague, which ended the entire farm. They were old plants, and to this problem were added the difficulties caused by low coffee prices, which the producer had been suffering from for years. That's why he made the decision to renew his farm with plants tolerant to rust but without affecting the quality of his coffee in the cup, respecting the environment and conserving the shade-grown cultivation. For this, he used fruit and shade trees of various species. With this commitment, the opportunity arises to link with the Civil Association Pronatura Veracruz, which in 2017 certified the farm as a Private Conservation Area under the SEDEMA/DGGARN-APC/205/2017 certificate. Already with a good plant production and in search of better prices for his product, Félix Morales and his family strive to improve the cutting and processing processes of their coffee. They only collect ripe cherries and carry out an artisanal pulping process using rainwater, fermentation, defoaming, and sun drying, carefully taking care of each part of the process.
