Part of the JR Farm family group, JR Farm II is located in the Mantiqueira mountains, in the city of Carmo de Minas. JR Farm II is owned by brothers José Flávio Ferraz Reis and Pedro Sérgio Ferraz Reis. The property is located in a privileged region that has perfect conditions for producing specialty coffees. Conditions such as elevation varying from 930 to 1350 meters, well-defined seasons, rain during the summer and sufficient sunlight during the winter. The region, called Mantiqueira de Minas, possesses a Designation of Origin seal, guaranteeing the provenance and quality of the coffee. The main activity carried out on the farm, which was inherited from their parents, has always been cultivating specialty coffees, for more than a century.
In the past, the farm was called Campo Redondo and, due to an interesting family fact, brothers Pedro and José Flávio decided to change the name to JR Farm. Both José Flávio’s wife and Pedro Sério’s wife had the last name: Junqueira. This meant that the children of each couple had the same surname: Junqueira Reis.
The producers have always been concerned with the quality of their coffees during all the years they’ve run the farm, which has resulted in them winning several BSCA competitions, which are the most famous coffee competitions in Brazil. The environment is also an important concern of the family and they maintain reserves of native flora and springs.
Coffee processing system
The coffee harvest is selective and done by hand. After picking, the lot is washed, pulped and taken to a cement patio for drying. If necessary, the coffee is taken to a mechanical dryer to reach the ideal humidity, 11.5%.
After this entire process, the coffee is sent to Cocarive’s warehouse, where it is processed and stored. The company has a sector, called Export, dedicated to specialty coffees. In this sector, the coffees are cupped and commercialized for the most demanding clients in the world.
