In the past, the farm was called Campo Redondo and, due to an interesting family fact, brothers Pedro and José Flávio decided to change the name to JR Farm. Both José Flávio’s wife and Pedro Sério’s wife had the last name: Junqueira. This meant that the children of each couple had the same surname: Junqueira Reis.
The producers have always been concerned with the quality of their coffees during all the years they’ve run the farm, which has resulted in them winning several BSCA competitions, which are the most famous coffee competitions in Brazil. The environment is also an important concern of the family and they maintain reserves of native flora and springs.
Coffee processing system
The coffee harvest is selective and done by hand. After picking, the lot is washed, pulped and taken to a cement patio for drying. If necessary, the coffee is taken to a mechanical dryer to reach the ideal humidity, 11.5%.
After this entire process, the coffee is sent to Cocarive’s warehouse, where it is processed and stored. The company has a sector, called Export, dedicated to specialty coffees. In this sector, the coffees are cupped and commercialized for the most demanding clients in the world.
