All the workers live on the farm itself, thus eliminating seasonal hiring, and they are adequately supported by unlimited health and dental plans. The second branch of the Pedro Roza School of Information Technology and a chapel designed by Oscar Niemayer have been constructed for the workers.
The environmental policy at Fazenda Rainha is based on reconciling production with environmental conservation.
Olives are also grown on the property and already well-known extra virgin olive oil is produced at the farm’s own mills.
Coffee processing system
Coffee picking is only done at the moment of peak ripeness. The beans are harvested by hand over cloths to avoid any contact with the soil.
After picking, the coffee is spread on patios for drying. Drying is done slowly under full sun until the beans reach 11.5% humidity. After dying, the coffee is conditioned in wooden rest boxes to homogenize humidity and freshness. After resting, it proceeds to complete processing.
Concern about quality
Lucas Antônio Gonçalves Franco, an agricultural engineer specialized in coffee, is the general director at Fazenda Rainha, a property certified by BSCA and the Rainforst Alliance system of socio-environmental management. The farm has been a finalist in the Cup of Excellence competition in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 e 2010, being crowned champion in the 2011 edition. In 2012 it again achieved a presidential coffee.
