In 2020, Samuel Ponce García acquired his plot of land, located in the municipality of Zongozotla, Puebla, known as Paso Viejo. This was a life goal he set together with his family. His plans included having a well-maintained plot and managing it well (a uniform and beautiful plantation) to promote and motivate new generations. He wanted older producers passing through his plot to believe once again in this noble crop, demonstrating that good practices, sometimes very small actions, result in good production outcomes. This producer also focuses on not neglecting the life of animals, trees, water, the soil itself, as well as the people who take care of the plot. In the finca, you can see the presence of wild animals. However, one of the things he enjoys most is the large number of native shade trees, so many that he still hasn't gotten to know them all. He identifies most of them with local names in his native language (Tutunaku). He also likes to take care of the soil and work to protect it by planting living barriers, introducing shrubs and trees (flowers, orange trees, lemon trees, lime trees) that have flowers and attract insects that help promote pollination, such as bees and other insects. To date, Samuel Ponce García's finca has a total of 3,545 plants, of which 3,206 are Marsellesa variety and 339 are experimental Mundo Maya hybrids (well-defined lots), all on an area of less than one hectare. Each planted tree has individual terraces, as well as well-defined paths within the crop for workers' passage and for finca management activities. Additionally, the finca has 4 well-marked lots to facilitate its management, from weed control, fertilization, foliar application, orderly cherry harvesting, coffee tree pruning by lots, and even the control and management of shade in each lot. Samuel Ponce García is very grateful to all the people interested in his coffee and hopes they enjoy its many attributes, traveling from its origin among native trees and the careful soil management that contributed significantly to the greatness of its final cup.
