Los Pinos, the First Carbon Neutral Coffee Farm in Mexico
My name is Julia Ortega Carballo. The story of Finca Los Pinos is shaped by family support, love, passion, and teamwork. Two decades ago, I realized the importance of developing a sustainable and regenerative coffee cultivation. We began by converting the farm to organic cultivation; however, this was not enough to help the environment. Therefore, we started integrating agricultural measures to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the entire transformation process (from seed to roasting).
CO2 is one of the main greenhouse gases, so it is crucial for all individuals and industries to stabilize our emissions. We believe that producing coffee under a Carbon Neutral scheme is a concrete action to mitigate climate change, given that coffee is the second most consumed beverage in the world.
At Finca Los Pinos, female labor is essential for the quality of our coffee. We work as a team where everyone contributes their knowledge. Personally, I have the technical and moral support of Rubén, my husband and life partner, the advice of my parents, my family, friends, and especially the people who work directly on the farm. All of them have contributed to making it possible for me to produce this wonderful coffee from Finca Los Pinos.
