Located at 1100 meters above sea level in Alishan of Chiayi County, Alluring Scent Coffee Estate is situated in a valley, so its daytime is particularly short. This creates a unique local ecological system with animals such as Reeve’s muntjacs, crested serpent eagles, and collared owlets, the smallest owls in Taiwan. Owner Jhao-Yun Wu comes from a family of edible vegetable farmers, but she realized the disadvantage of regular vegetable’s short harvest period an even shorter shell lives when the notorious Morakot Typhoon destroyed access roads to her village and ruined an entire year’s harvest.
Deciding to switch to coffee cultivation, Wu began growing SL-34, Typica, Geisha, and a small amount of 74110. She worked closely with her family to take care of field management, processing, roasting, retail, and online marketing until her parent’s health deteriorates. Now, she has taken over both field management, processing, retail, and online marketing. She keeps an army of cats on the farm to scare off rats and other potential pests. When the weather is nice, she travels to nearby tourist centers to peddle her freshly brewed coffees.
